Students created carnival games involving probability today! We had a lot of fun playing games at the "Carnival". Ask your child what games they created and how they decided the probability of winning or losing! Listen for those wonderful math probability words! Habitats Unit Test: Wed., May 7, 2014We have gone over each and every item on the review sheet in class. Students discussed the answers as well as where to find the information to study. We again discussed efficient ways to study including:

As a part of our Science unit on Habitats, students are asked to choose a living thing and create it's habitat. The habitat must include all of the things that a habitat provides for that living thing to survive! This project must be completed totally at school.
Students conducted probability experiments and made predictions based on the results! Tree diagrams are a great way to organize information to find the probability (fraction) of an event occuring. Check out the opportunities for using tree diagrams in tonight's homework. Please review your child's homework whenever he/she brings it home.
In Health, students have been investigating the dangers of smoking. Ask your child to tell you some of the harmful substances in cigarettes as well as the long and short term effects of first and second-hard smoke. Stay tuned for some anti-smoking commercials!
We have begun a unit on Probability during Math. Students will be using probability words like impossible, unlikely, likely, possible, certain, probable, improbable during this unit. Ask your child to use some of these vocabulary words to describe events.
In Science, we have been discussing food chains. We have determined that all food that we eat can be traced back to the sun! We played a little game of "Stump the Teacher" by trying to find a food that could not somehow, someway, be traced back to a plant. And we already know that plants need the sun to survive. So far, we cannot think of even one! Students created chains to show foods that are traced back to the sun!Students are painting an important scene or event from "Charlotte's Web".Ask your child what he/she painted and to explain why that is an important event in the story! |
